Mission

The Dragons Rowing Club provides members of the community with an opportunity to experience the physical and mental challenges of rowing by:

1. Providing rowing programs and other activities which promote the sport of rowing;
2. Helping members develop a sense of belonging to a rowing community in which respect of all members of the community is valued;
3. Actively promoting the mental and physical challenges that rowing provides, and 
4. Fostering the development of a sense of responsibility to the wider community in offering rowing opportunities in accordance with the rules of Rowing Queensland Inc and Rowing Australia

The history of Dragons Rowing Club 

1994 - A group of mothers from St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School accepted a challenge from a number of Brisbane Grammar School mothers for the inaugural Mothers' Regatta.

1995 - St Margaret’s mothers continued to participate in the sport on a social and recreational basis.

1997 - Rowing Club  was officially launched and incorporated as a club by eleven slightly crazy, water-logged foundation members. The inaugural Social Regatta (All Fired Up) was held on the Brisbane River and was the first official Dragons Rowing Club regatta.

1998 - DRC became one of the first providers of the Brisbane City Council’s Real Adventure Women (RAW) program.  The first Dragons Rowing Club entries in the RQI regattas – State Champions in the Women’s Veteran C Coxed 8 at the State Veteran Championships. Competed in the inaugural Asia Pacific Games with a Gold Medal for the Women’s Veteran C Coxed 4 and a Silver and Bronze medal in the Women’s Veteran C Coxed 8.

1999 - Organised the inaugural Learn to Row weekend camp for veteran women.  Awarded Rowing Australia’s Club Achievement Award for developing rowing for Master Athletes.

2000 - Awarded Rowing Australia’s Club Achievement Award for developing rowing for students with disabilities.  Organised the first Adaptive event for students with disabilities at the QLD Schools State Rowing Championships.  Organised the first training weekend camp for veteran men and women. Competed in the Australian Masters Championships State Championships and Asia Pacific Games.   Awarded Active Australia Provider status.

2002 - Competed in World Masters in Ballarat.  Gained land at Breakfast Creek.

2003 - Moved to Breakfast Creek and into rowing shed with St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School.

2007 - Launched the Adaptive (now Para) Rowing Program in Queensland in liaison with Sporting Wheelies and Recreation for the Disabled.

2008 - Coached Adaptive (now Para) rowers for entry into the National Rowing Championships in Penrith. Gold medal in the LTA Men’s’ Double.

2009 - Competed in the Sydney World Masters Games, and other RQI and interstate regattas. A renewed club membership saw a Dragons revival.

2010 - Competed in the Pan Pacific Masters Games, taking home over 100 medals from the competition.

2011 - Competed in the Queensland Championships bringing home two gold medals (a first for the club). A number of members travelled to New Zealand to compete for the first time in NZ Masters Championships.

2012 - A small contingent of members traveled to Ballarat to compete at the Australian Masters for the first time. This was also the first year Dragon's Rowing Club had representatives in the Queensland State Masters Crew, with two of our male members in the State eight.

2013 -  Members traveled to Italy to compete in the World Masters Games, bringing home fond memories and suitcases full of medals!

2014 - Competed in the Queensland State Masters Championships at Rockhampton, where the club topped the medal count with 17 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze.

2014 - Competed at Australian Masters Championships at Westlakes Adelaide. 16 Members entered 35 events and received 2 silver, 7 bronze medals and one champion club medal.

2015 - Completed at the Australian Masters Championships at Penrith, winning 12 medals in total.

Dragons Rowing Club will continue to develop a range of rowing programs for all members of the community regardless of age or ability.
