Sponsor the Potential within your Local Community

Who are we?

The Dragons Rowing Club provides all members of the community with an opportunity to experience the physical and mental challenges of rowing. We offer a range of rowing programs and specialise in scull and sweep rowing...this does not include kayaking or dragon boating (despite our name!).

We are a diverse club, ranging from members that represent Australia in international competition through to members who row socially. Primarily a masters club, our members range from 27 – 70 years of age.

Our Club has a short history but has prospered through the hard work and energy of its members. Starting with 11 members in 1996, our club has steadily grown to 50 as of 2014. The future of the Club is now only limited by the infrastructure and equipment it can provide to current and prospective members.

How do we support the community?

What sets Dragons apart, and has enabled our success to date, is our community mindedness and orientation. Dragons Rowing Club is the only rowing club on the north side of Brisbane city. We offer rowing programs to all our local community members, so they too can have an opportunity to experience the joy of rowing. To cater for a growing interest in this sport, we offer Come and Try days so that participants feel confident of their own abilities and are warmly welcomed into the special culture that exists at Dragons.

Another core part of our success has been through the establishment and management of one of Australia’s most successful Para Rowing program.

Para rowing is sweep rowing or sculling for people with physical disabilities and limitations, including in part, paraplegia, quadriplegia, visual impairment, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and spina bifida.

The Dragon’s Para Rowing Program is specifically designed for high performance athletes with a disability, who are interested in representing their country at national and international levels. A recent success story is Para rower Erik Horrie, who joined Dragons Rowing Club in 2010. Through Dragons dedication and support, coupled with Erik's determination, commitment, and energy, Erik who rows as an Arms / Shoulders (AS) rower, was a  Silver Medallist at the 2012 London Paralympics, and World Champion in Korea 2013 with a world record time. He has been named Para Rower of the Year three years in a row at Dragons Rowing Club’s Annual Awards and Rowing Australia’s Male Rower of the Year in 2013. Erik is now supported by Rowing Australia and lives in Sydney to be closer to the AIS in Canberra – however Erik is always a Dragon!

What will your sponsorship provide for our community club?

  1. Enable us to build the infrastructure that our club requires to maintain the Para rowing program.
  2. Enable us to purchase additional boats to continue running the “Come and Try Rowing” Days.
  3. Enable us to upgrade our fleet, to enable us to have competition-worthy boats so we can continue to train and build our team of Australian representatives
